Living an Intentional Life – A Brief Guide

May 7, 2024

We are all given one life. The question is – are you living your life intentionally? It can become easy to live a life of default and simply be influenced by what others think and say.

Nonetheless, this doesn’t have to be the case with you. Yes – you read this right. You can live a life based on your terms instead of living on autopilot. You will want to live a life that is exclusively designed by you and is based on your personal values.

This way, you can ensure that by the end of your life, you can look back and be content with how you spent your years.

What is Intentional Living About?

  • Intentional living can help with the following aspects:
  • Getting a clearer picture of what matters to you.
  • Being able to make the decision-making process easier.
  • Living a life that is in perfect alignment with the things you want.

Now that you know what intentional living is about, you will want to move on to the best tips that can help you live a more intentional life.

Understand Your Core Values

The thing is that intentional living looks different for different people. This aspect means that what one person cares about looks very different from what another person values. This aspect means that living on your own terms requires you to get absolutely clear on what matters most to you.

As a starting point, you will want to reflect on what your core values are. It could be health, relationships, and honesty. So, you will want to get in touch with your core values and identify which core values resonate with you the most.

Think of What You Want in Life

If you are confused about your core values, you can ask yourself what you would want more of in life? For instance, if you are an avid writer, you might want to be a writer yourself and would want to see your book ranking in the list of New York’s bestsellers. In this case, you might want to enroll in one of the best creative writing classes in Los Angeles, that is, if you reside in Los Angeles, so you can do the actions that you know you must do to reach your life goal.

Nonetheless, you might also want to have more creativity in your life, which is why you might have decided to become a writer in the first place. Once you start to pay attention to your intuition, there will be a couple of things that you might wish for more of.

Limit Distractions

It can be incredibly difficult to pay attention to one’s inner voice when there is too much noise in one’s surroundings. So, to live more intentionally, it can be helpful for you to limit potential distractions and external stimuli.

Everyone is guilty from time to time of scrolling social media for hours without putting much thought into it. The thing is that when you are in the loop of constantly swiping and checking your screen, it can become quite difficult for you to become introspective.

So, when you find yourself in this loop, you might want to pause everything for a minute and ask yourself whether you are being intentional with your actions. Sometimes, the answer will actually be a yes. For instance, after having a long time at work, you might need only ten minutes to mindlessly scroll your phone as a medium to transition your mind out of work mode.

The thing is that as long as you are being intentional with your actions, you will be living an intentional life, which is also the goal. The key is to live a life that is meaningful to you and that you feel satisfied with.

Take Small Steps

Once you know what is important to you, you can take small yet important steps in the direction of your values. For instance, if you have decided that you want to become an author and a creative outlet for your thoughts and imagination, you can start working on your manuscript.

You might as well want to start a blog, for which you will need a website first. The next step would be to brainstorm ideas that you feel like your audience would like to read. You will also need to do your research, including searching for keywords that you will use in the title and content of your blogs.

The next step would be to outline your blog and include sub-points in your heading so that you don’t forget anything. The final step is to read out the blog so you can hear yourself and how it would appear to the readers.

Nonetheless, you get the point – whatever your values and goals are – you will want to start taking small steps as a way to ensure that you live a life that is designed by you and that you have control over.

Nonetheless, if you value social connections, you might want to call a friend and invite them for a cup of coffee. If you value peace of mind, you might want to take the mandatory step of cleaning your room and tidying up your living space, as it would bring a sense of inner peace.

It is important to mention here that it can be overwhelming to set large goals for yourself, which is why you will want to take small steps and remain consistent with your actions. Believe us when we tell you that small efforts can lead to more sustainable changes, which is also what you want to obtain in your life.

The more you focus on staying consistent and taking small steps in the direction of the things that you value, the easier it will be for you to repeat this in all areas of your life – whether it is your physical health, personal growth, career growth, or mental health. Also, you will want to track your time and your daily activity so that you know how you spend every hour or minute of your life.
